The Valentine New Moon is exact at 25’17 Aquarius and appears to be a very supportive New Moon to make far-reaching (perhaps unusual) changes in the way we interact with one another, not only on a broad Aquarian scale but also on a very personal level with the approaching Moon-Venus-Jupiter conjunction on Valentine’s Day itself (Venus will not exactly conjoin Jupiter until the 16th, but they are within a 3 degree orb at the New Moon) in the spiritually erotic sign of Pisces. The Moon will kiss Venus at 3:52 pm on the 14th (US EST) and then cozy up to Jupiter four hours later. Our need for love, affection, and inspiration will be underlined and thus, we should do whatever we can to create a loving, open, mutually supportive environment with our loved one. The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon degree is “A Butterfly With The Right Wing More Perfectly Formed” which suggests that we may feel a need to overcompensate. Perhaps we have been approaching love too intellectually and now find our feelings need to be honored and expressed. Emotions can easily get out of control and should be channeled into creative love-making or artistic endeavors.
While this energy is likely to be very uplifting and should help create a deep sense of connection between highly conscious and spiritually in-tune lovers - it could potentially be one very sensual day - other planetary signatures and aspects support the quest to break away from outmoded, stagnating partnerships. If you are involved in a rocky marriage or caught up in a situation you haven’t been able to get out of with a lover, Valentine’s day may take on a more somber or frustrating tone with transiting retrograde Saturn (in Libra) and transiting retrograde Mars (in Leo) both in very close quincunx to Venus (forming a yod, with Venus as the apex planet), just as she emerges out of the Sun’s arms and back into our view as the Evening Star (you should be able to see her in the US about 15 minutes after sunset - look to the right of the very slim beginning crescent Moon on the 14th. Jupiter will be close by as well…Venus is brighter). The ability to give and receive love may not feel easy within difficult relationships, especially if we aren’t even sure we still love the one we are with. This energy is amplified due to the recent (February 4 - 5, 2010) transiting Juno T-square with the nodal axis that may still resonate uneasily in long-term relationships. It was a pretty potent time with T Jupiter and T Pluto in exact sextile at the same time (along with the exact Saturn-Pluto square!). If you found yourself caught up in disagreements that seemed relatively minor on the surface, be aware that whatever cropped up is much more deeply embedded. In other words, it may be a symptom of an underlying ‘dis-ease’ lingering between you. The outlet point for this tension is Libra 20’49 so take a look at your chart(s) and see how you are supported or hindered in releasing the energy in a creative Mercurial - Venusian manner (Mercury is the decan sub-ruler for this degree). Writing out your feelings may help…speaking creatively and lovingly are also good bets but it is possible you will be misunderstood by your partner - on purpose. Juno in Aries can be a frustrated and angry placement, and with the recent square to the nodal axis in Cancer/Capricorn it is easy to see that autonomy and individualism may be a priority. Some of us may feel threatened by the demands and expectations of our partners and long to break out of the relationship…and this is exactly what can happen if we work to manifest our goals consciously and productively. If you want to make the relationship work, it is time to figure out how to work together and compromise…it may be time to let the secrets out of the closet or allow yourself to show those parts of yourself that you’ve kept hidden because your partner may not approve. The message of the Sabian Symbol for Libra 21 degrees is “A Sunday Crowd Enjoying The Beach”…in order to truly enjoy your relationship and to interact freely as who YOU are, you must be true to your own inner Self. No one has fun at the beach if they are wrapped up in layers of clothing or hiding out in a tent.
The Aquarian energy (Mercury, Black Moon Lilith, the Sun, Chiron, and Neptune all in Aquarius - along with the New Moon on the 13th) can help us step back and envision our own happiness for the future while the supportive Pluto aspect to Venus (a lively sextile) and Mars in Leo sextile to Saturn all promise that although we may be frustrated in our relationships, it is this very frustration that will propel us to do something about it. At this time it may still be a mental project, but our feelings and our very hearts are deeply involved in creating necessary change in how we approach life and love. All this thinking about what we want - and do not want - in our relationships is akin to preparing the soil and planting the seed for a more potent, soul-connected future relationship. Once Mars turns direct on March 10th we will be more prepared to act upon our desires…by the time Saturn starts his forward motion on May 30th (on the heels of the 4th Saturn-Uranus opposition on April 26th…interestingly, the Moon will move over the Juno/Nodal axis T-square outlet point - 20’49 Libra - within 8 hours after the exact Saturn-Uranus opposition), we should be able to look back over the past few months and see how far we’ve come. If we are dissatisfied with our progress at that time, we will finally gather the strength to start building something serious for ourselves. If we haven’t done our mental work and laid out the blueprint for developing our relationship potential by the end of May, shock-waves may be in store with the final Saturn-Uranus opposition on July 26, 2010.
This Valentine’s Day weekend may be frustrating for many of us, although there is also such great promise that we can enjoy ourselves and fall deeper in love. Along with those involved in a tense marriage or long-term partner relationships, star-crossed lover’s will also find themselves struggling to deal with separation or distance issues. They may long to be with one another but may find it impossible (as shown by the retrograde Libran Saturn quincunx Venus in dreamy Pisces)…it is important to keep a positive perspective and utilize any mode of communication possible to keep in touch with one another and show how much you love each other. Although you may not be able to enjoy the sensual love-making and solidarity of touch at this time, open and loving communication is all that is needed to connect your hearts and minds and experience a deeper sense of love with one another. As your intellect and emotions connect (Mercury semisextile Moon/Venus/Jupiter), you may realize that what you share and create with one another now is preparing your relationship for a more solid future…although your love may seem illusive at times, it may well be the very pearl that you must dig for in order to express your love nature fluently. It’s long been said that anything worth having is worth working for.
The very essence of this weekend can be summarized as the search for - or development of - the type of love symbolized in this short line by Keats:
"Two souls with but a single thought, two hearts that beat as one."
